SAM compass | ![]() |
The SAM compass shows you in what direction you are looking, or it will show you where a place is that you found on the map. The compass is NOT a navigation tool, that tells you where to go!!!
For GPS navigation you can press on the Google Maps icon that appears often next to objects or in the messaging window.
The advantage of this compass is, that it turns the map in the direction that you are looking. If that direction is not correct, turn your phone in a circular movement or in the form of an eight. If that still doesn't work, it might be that you are inside a big metal object like a bus or that you are in a large building.

Click your location button, and
your message window opens. If you click on your emoji again, it will be removed from the map.
If you like, you can add your name under your emoji.
Press "Go" on your keyboard to place your name under your emoji.
Write your message and press "send".
Share your message to any contact in WhatsApp, SMS or E-Mail.
Sharing your message to Messenger, Snapchat and Instagram also works, but they have their own in-app-browser, so opening the message might give unexpected results.
Your friend receives your message like this: (for example in messenger)
When your friend clicks the link in the message, the SAM-map will open:
Your friend can then click your emoji to respond:
Your friend can reply in the open message window, or click the EMOJIBAR and choose one or multiple emojis, and send it to you.
Move them around to different places on the map.
To close the EMOJIBAR again click the vortex, the emoji at the top.

Use the compass hand to show you a direction. | ![]() |
Press the SAM-COMPASS (the compass hand) to see where you are heading. The compass hand and the map will turn in the direction that you are pointing the phone.
If someone, in our example Lucy, sends you her location, click your compass hand and it will point in his direction and show the distance.
Or type-in a destination in the search bar to search for a place like a pizzeria, etc.
click the compass-hand, and it will point in the direction of the choice you made and it will give the distance. You can choose between miles and kilometers in the settings.
Click in the middle of the hand to change between target locations. Click again and again to toggle between the results. This "toggling" on the map works, when you have multiple emojis on the map. Please contact us if something is unclear or if something doesn't give the result that you expected, so we can try to improve that.
A traditional compass always points to the north, whereas the Sendamap compass points in the direction you are moving. It also shows the direction of a place with the distance as the crow flies.
The turning of the map in the direction that you are looking, works best outdoors. Also, having your phone on the charger cable might influence it. If your phone has a built-in compass but it seems to point in a slightly wrong direction (that can also be when tilting the phone up or down instead of holding it horizontally on a flat surface), then turn your phone around in the form of an eight a few times to improve its direction. The compass will be reset/calibrated that way, which is common for mobile phones.
If your phone doesn’t have an in-built compass, it will use your change of position instead. Just walk a bit in the direction you want to go, and the map will soon turn in the direction you are moving.
If your map still doesn't turn, you can try to update your phone or your browser version. It can also be that your phone is of a slightly older generation. If you like you can contact Sendamap in mentioning that you have a technical question. Please also mention some details about your phone and the browser you are using if you can.
If you have google maps on your phone as your GPS navigator, you can click on an emoji to start the google navigator from where you are, to that point on the map. SAM itself is a very handy location, direction and messaging tool.
